The Baker Hotel?

The Baker Hotel may be gone, but it's not forgotten...the City and the Hospital District are exploring the possibility of working together to utilize the vacant building as an Assisted Living Center.  Head on over to our Facebook page to voice your opinion on the possible project!

KTAB comes to Colorado City!

It was a fun day yesterday in Ruddick Park!  KTAB came to Colorado City as part of their "KTAB on the Road" series!  They broadcasted live from Ruddick Park for their 4,6 and 10 o'clock news, and interviewed local businesses.  Games, prizes, food and the night capped off with live music from Zach Edwards!

Crews are busy clearing off the lot between 3rd and 4th on Pine, where the new County Law Enforcement Center will be built.

     Here at KVMC KAUM this morning we received about 15 calls from local residents wanting to know "what the explosion was."
     The "BOOM" heard Friday for miles around was the implosion of Morgan Creek unit number five and stack number four, now the Luminant Morgan Creek plant south of Colorado City.  Until this morning there were two natural gas steam units and six natural gas combustion turbine units.  The steam units are retired and therefore no longer operating.  Officials with Luninant say in the best interest of being good neighbors, they decided to remove the steam unit structures.
     The combustion turbines remain in operatioin and play an important role in meeting peak demands for electricity today.
     Unit number six will come down at some time later this year.  Check the KVMC KAUM web site and Facebook for photographs of the implosion today, furnished by Luminant and Kitten Arthur.

     Colorado City could very well become a western terminal for a gigantic pipeline that would stretch from west Texas to south of Houston, a distance of 400 miles! Magellan Midstream Partners are considering the project and right now they are in an "open season," a 30 day time period in which they are soliciting interest from prospective shippers.
     After the 30 day period, which we are now in, a determination will be made to evaluate the level of interest in the project.
     A Megellan spokesman told KVMC KAUM that they were excited about the possibilities and the next step in the decision making process will be considered.
     The proposed pipeline system would offer shippers access to over 2.2 million barrels of oil per day.  If plans come to fruition, it would take some 14 to 24 months to complete construction of the pipeline and work might get underway by mid 2014.
     Colorado City citizens could gain new employment opportunites from the venture, but the number is unknown at this time.  The storage capacity here is expected to be a million gallons of crude. So as a terminal for the project, we would get some payroll from the project.

Baby Blue Jays....

Jim and Linda got a suprise on their doorstep yesterday when someone dropped off a box with 2 little baby Blue Jays in it!  Luckily, a tender-hearted friend offered to take the baby birds to care for them, and after a little bit of coaxing, they had no problem lifting their heads to be hand-fed!  They are being taken to a long-time bird lover for future care.

Col-Tex Refinery recieves Historical Marker...

A Historical marker was dedicated at the site of the old Col-Tex Refinery yesterday, and a nice crowd of former employees and the public were on hand for the event. 

Mayor Carol Sue Dakan welcomes everyone to the dedication Saturday morning.

Frank and Al Mendoza, along with Al's wife were present for the event.  Their dad, Luciano Mendoza, was the first Hispanic employee at Col-Tex.

Psychic Gail St. John assists with search for Hailey Dunn!

The search for missing Hailey Dunn has been given a shot in the arm with the arrival of 2 persons who have a reputation for helping find missing persons, Gail St. John and Gary Peterson.  Peterson is a veteran investigator and St. John is a nationally know psychic.  Hailey has been missing from Colorado City since December of 2010.
