Colorado City Police Department promotes Traven Berrie to Sergeant!

The Colorado City Police Department held a swearing in ceremony for Officer Berrie yesterday....promoting him to Sergeant.  Also recognized at the event was Dispatcher Dottie Taylor, a State nominee for 911 Operator of the Year, cited by the Police Chief for her outstanding service. 


Sergeant Berrie is sworn in by City Secretary Donna Madrid.


Sergeant Berrie was joined by his family at the swearing in ceremony.  Shown right to left.....Emily Lankford (sister), Traven Berrie, Bob Berrie (dad), Joshua Lankford, Jessica Lankford, Charlene Berrie (mom), Chloe and Katie Lankford.

City Council appoints Banks as new member......

The City Council recieved six application for the spot recently vacated by Jason Castillo.  Brenda Carpenter, Chad Morris, Dot Smith, Bobbi Banks, Larry Blassingame and Ed Blake all expressed an interest in the position.  Comments were made by Banks and Blassingame at the meeting, and the vote was 4-2 to appoint Bobbi Banks to fill in the spot till next election.  She ran against Mayor Dakan in the recent election and was defeated.

Larry Blassingame addressed the Council and does plan to seek election in May.



Bobbi Banks also was on hand to answer questions. 

Astroturf....coming to Wolf Stadium!




Wolf Stadium is getting a big facelift!  The grass has been plowed up and are waiting to be hauled off..then the work begins!  Texas Sports Builders Inc. will be putting in the articifical turf and should be ready for the first home game!!

House fire spoils holiday for local family....

Colorado City firemen responded to a house fire yesterday afternoon on 17th Street.  The house is owned by Jason and Virginia Oakley and luckily no one was home when the fire broke out.  The cause is still under investigation.



Fun in Ruddick Park for the 4th of July!

Good crowd of folks turned out to have some holiday fun in Ruddick Park yesterday evening!  The event was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, and included water games, free swimming at the City Pool, a dunking booth, a 42 tournament and more!  The night was capped off with live music in the Ampitheatre and a big Fireworks show!

Root Memorial Hospital....ready for the wrecking ball??



Plans are being discussed between the Mitchell County Hospital District and the City of Colorado City to level the historical hospital, built back in 1927, to utilize the underground portion for an emergency shelter.
