Timber....

The huge trees in front of the Colorado ISD Administration building are no more...according to new Superintendant Reggie Spencer. "The Cedar Trees have been there longer than I have been on this earth and they are really nice trees, but they have caused us some problems" says Spencer. He notes they have stopped up drains and added to the roof problems. He says they are not just taking them down to take them down, and he also thinks it helpded clean up around the school too.

Groundbreaking at the Mitchell County Hospital....

It was celebration time at the hospital this morning....ground breaking on the new entrance to the facility. The J.O. Dockrey 4th of July Fly-in!!

The rain didn't dampen the spirits of those who came out the J.O. Dockrey 4th of July Fly-in!

2 of the 3 planes that made it to the Fly-In...usually 100 or more planes fly-in to the show.

Despite the inclement weather, the chefs from City National Bank served up over 250 breakfasts.

This little fella was voted the "Cutest Visitor" at the Fly-in!

Wayne Bartlett from Big Spring, almost always a participant at the Fly-In..but he's quit flying for some 2 years. Still glad he made it to Colorado City!

Plaque for the most Unusual Plane went to Duncan, who also won the coin toss to win Pilot who came the farthest...all 3 planes were from Sweetwater!

It's time for the Youngest Pilot...who is 59 year old Bill Johnson of Sweetwater.

Bombing Range in Mitchell County?

A practice bombing range in Mitchell County? Yes there was, beginning in 1943, planes from Big Spring Air Base flew over the area to sharpen their skills. The Range was closed after the War and the Army Corps of Engineers is checking out bombing ranges across the U.S. looking for any possible dangerous munitions.
