Spade Ranch Tour is a huge hit!

The Spade Ranch Tour was a big hit with local residents and out of towners too! Brush control, the fight against Salt Cedar and the Quail habitat were among the subjects addressed.
Over 130 persons tunred out for the Spade Ranch Tour and enjoyed the meal and program at the Civic Center.
Sweetwater's Tommy Henderson enjoyed the history of the Spade Ranch!
Ralph Proctor, Brush Control specialist from Dow Chemical made a presentation and also enjoyed the catered meal!

Gwen Wistrend honored for 13 years of service!

Welcome to Robbie Dewberry, the new CEO at Mitchell County Hospital! He is replacing former CEO Karl Stinson. He will be taking over the position on June 1st.

World War II mortar blown up....

A House Fire on Austin Street.....

Colorado City Firemen responded to a house fire on Saturday at 833 Austin Street...the cause of the fire has been determined to be electrical. Paula Albert, who rents the home, was gone when the fire broke out, but her daighter Connie was asleep at the time. Connie'd fiance Shannon Schraeder was able to alert Connie and get her out of the house, but her little pomeranian perished in the fire.

City gets busy tearing down buildings.....

They are calling it the "Reclaiming Colorado City" campaign, and it got underway yesterday downtown as the bulldozers began demolishing old buildings that had been on the City's hit list.

This was the old hotel behind 7-11 on 2nd street. The City has decided to leave the 2 story structure standing for now, but wasted no time demolishing the hotel rooms and even the house behind the structure.
Local police were kept busy watching over traffic as all the demolition got underway downtown yesterday morning.
That old white 2 story building has housed many businesses over the years.

While the City is busy tearing down buildings, Lupe Salazar and his wife are hard at work restoring a historic home at 6th and Chestnut! Take a look at the porch they have rebulit-way to go Salazar family!

Main Street's Mad Hatter Tea Party!

Another unique event, sponsored by Main Street, was held this past Sunday at the 3M Palace Theatre. It was a Mad Hatters Tea Party and Hat Competition! Hats of all shapes and sizes were on parade at the event, and spectators were also treated to a Spring Fashion Show with clothing and accessories by The Dragonlfy and Eclectiques! After the party, it was a special showing of "Alice in Wonderland".

The Palace Theatre was truly transormed for the event, with a gorgeous table filled with baskets for the Tea Party! Each participant was given a basket filled with homemade sandwiches, carrot and celery sticks, brownies and chex-mix!
